The lake 29.604 m2and has borders to following countries Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania. Its 560 km long and about75 km wide.

The Lake has existed for at least 3 million years, some say even longer. Only the top 200 meters contain larger lifeforms (only amoebic lifeforms are found lower than 200 meters.
      The lake is 704 meter deep. There are about 600 species fish in the lake (some books state as low as 240, some say more) .About two thirds of these are cichlids.Apart from fish there are lots of other lifeforms such as crocodiles and hippos and more. Ph in the lake ranges from 7,7 to 8,6.
